Bertrand Russell was the most famous philosopher of his time. He did pioneering work in mathematical logic and his contributions to this and other branches of philosophy had an enormous influence on his contemporaries. He was one of the originators of the analytical movement which has dominated philosophy in the English speaking world throughout the greater part of this century.
