This edition hopes to capture that excitement. It tries to do full justice to the new developments both in the discipline and in the subject. We have stressed the enhanced role of the President, the historic actions of the Supreme Court and of the 'new Congress', the broadened programs in civil rights and social welfare, the intensified problems of the states and cities. We have also added a new section on political science as a discipline and we have expanded our treatment of political science 'frontiers' and political scientists activities. Since we urge the students to be self conscious about the discipline, we have tried to be too.
