The Easter event is fundamental to Christian belief, and the gospel accounts of the empty tomb and Jesus' appearances after the resurrection are familiar from the liturgical readings of the Easter season. Closer comparison of the individual gospel accounts, however, reveals remarkable divergences as each gospel follows its own course, narrating particular incidents in accordance with its distinctive theological perspective.
