Guide to Old Testament Prophecy
There are two ways of trying to understand the prophets. One is to take their writings one at a time and study them with the aid of a commentary. The other is to try to understand the basic principles of Old Testament prophecy, the background against which they worked and the underlying ideas which they took for granted. In Guide to Old Testament Prophecy it is second method which the author adopts. So he tells us about the significance of the Word, the place of symbolic action and the meaning of such prophetic ideas as holiness and righteousness. The relationship between priest and prophet, and between prophetic utterance and Wisdom literature is also brought out, so as to provide one the best guides available to contemporary biblical scholarship on prophecy and the prophets in the Old Testament.
