In Religious Education and Human Development, Michael Grimmitt offers a comprehensive account of how religious education contributes to pupils' personal, social, moral, religious and spiritual development. He is critical of much contemporary theory and practice in religious education which, he believes, fail to relate to young people's felt needs and experiences; and equally critical of current trends in secondary education of incorporating religious education into 'PSME' courses which do not provide adequate opportunities for the exploration of religious and spiritual values.
