Public Television: A Program for Action
Noncommercial television of diversity and excellence a new Public Television is the subject of this widely discussed report of the Carnegie Commission on Educational Television. Fifteen distinguished Americans, after a year of intensive study, recommend far reaching changes in noncommercial television to bring into being an ambitious system of Public Television, designed for the home viewer. In the preparation of this Report, visits were made to ninety two educational television stations in the United States and to seven foreign countries. The Commisions Report contains extensive factual information about educational television in the United States today; and the Report is supplemented by a number of background papers prepared for the Commision's consideration including a glimpse into communications technology of the future.
