In Pursuit of Love: Catholic Morality and Human Sexuality
This a noteworthy and much needed book which presents and explains Catholic moral teaching in a clear, practical and pastorally relevant way. It has been written from within a decade's experience of teaching students and adults who are interested in furthering their understanding of what impact their Christian faith might and should have upon their efforts at living morally. Commencing with a consideration of the meaning and spirit of Christian living, the author then moves to the issues of authority and conscience. A chapter on the theology of sin precedes an extensive treatment of human sexuality. The author then moves into specific areas that are of traditional and increasingly controversial concern to the moralist, such as pre-marital sexuality, contraception, homosexuality, masturbation and abortion. Throughout his book Fr Genovesi maintains a careful and judicious balance between traditional teaching and the need to respond with honesty and integrity to many of the challenges posed by modern society.
