Neither human rights nor T. Mulya Lubis needs an introduction in Indonesia, or for that matter elsewhere, but a book by Mulya about human rights in Indonesia deserves more than ordinary notice. As much as has been written about the subject, by Indonesia and foreign authors alike, it is not easy to grasp fully. Here, however, is a sustained and enlightening discussion, by an experienced and well informed critic, of the principal issues as they have envolved in relevant Indonesian perspective. Originally a doctoral dissertation submitted to the law faculty of the University of California in Berkeley, it is at once an analysis and a proposal of reform.
