Few preachers will lay down this book without an unhappy feeling of the cheapness of their own preaching; but equally few preachers will lay it down without a new sense of the mystery and the splendor of the gospel which they preach. This will inevitably never be one of the popular books on preaching; it makes too many mental and spiritual demands on the reader for that; but it will remain one of the great books on preaching.
