Many Bible readers find John's Gospel difficult. At first sight the words seem easy enough. But soon one realizes that terms like light, life, world and Jews are not so simple after all. And the argument is often hard to follow. The beautiful phrases and sentences often appear to float like puffy clouds across the page. But where they fit and what logic they follow are not so easy to see.
