Knowledge Transfer and Usage in Communication Studies
The need for, and the function of, communication education at the university level, both in developed and developing countries, in the last decade has been a source of controversy among academics, social science researches, policy and decision makers, communication industry professionals, media practitioners and development agency officials. One of the main issues of the controversy is the relevance and practicality of communication education to meet the needs of the communication media industry of both developed and developing countries, and the development programs or activities of the Third World. While in some Third World countries the popularity of schools of communication seems to be on the rise, in the United States, for example, many schools of communication reported a decrease in student application and enrollment, especially at the Ph.D. level, during the last decade.
