Living with Sex: The Student's Dilemma
Richard Hettlinger's Living with Sex is first class. It is a work based upon the American scene but by an English priest perfectly familiar with problems here. It has the enormous double advantage that the author is well schooled in contemporary American sex research, and knows students in their real-life sexual dilemmas. What makes the book outstanding is that it is an argument with the mind of the American student, at once for tright and hard-headed, about the conditions of sexual activity. Hettlinger cannot tolerate the pious nonsense talked about masturbation; he does not believe in inevitability in homosexuality; nor can he accept that intercourse outside marriage (or engagement) is inevitably wrong; he sees compassionately why petting to orgasm in American student life so often comes up to but falls short of actual coitus.
