Communicating Between Cultures: An Introduction to Intercultural Communication
Intercultural communication means the sharing of information and knowledge, of sentiments and experiences by people from different cultures. Communicating between cultures means the sharing and mutual understanding of different cultural backgrounds, preconditions and conditions of people linked or to be linked or to be linked together in the spirit of Christian solidarity, responsibility and liberation. Communicating between cultures in this sense means moving from ethnocentrism to mutual respect, sharing and catholicity for a common good. This introduction is more an outline than a detailed description of and for intercultural communication. The book should help to introduce students and anybody interested into the field of intercultural communication. The main approach in the presentation comes from the social communication field, but an attempt is also made to incorporate interdisciplinary considerations from fields like anthropology and Missiology.
