Nationalism: Its Meaning and History
Written by one of the distinguished historians of our time, this lucid book offers a concise history of nationalism from its beginnings to the present day. In this revised edition, Professor Kohn has added a new section to chapter 8 to survey the most recent events. He has also added two documents dealing with China and Africa; Mao Tse-tung; A National Popular Culture a basic program 'for the Marxists of China' that stresses the national character of Chinese Communist culture; and The Uganda Flag a stanza from the poem 'Fly Higher and Higher the Uganda Flag' that characterizes the spirit of African nationalism today. As in the first edition, this book covers both nationalism's world wide status today and its historical background, background which alone explains why it has produced contrary results in different lands.
