Religious education in the present-day secondary or primary school is a very different thing from what it was a generation ago. A great ferment of thought and discussion has been going on, ranging from philosophical analysis to the details of curriculum planning. A lot has been written about all this, and what the in-service or student teacher now needs is a single, wide-ranging and balanced survey of what it all amounts to, and what it means in terms of actual practice in a real school.
