The blessing of Harvery Cox's 'Secular City' are proving short-lived. Choked with traffic and swathed in pollution, the scene of crime, exploitation and often racial hatred, the city has become the embodiment of the evils of modern civilization and then there is violence: not just obvious person-to-person physical violence, but violence against the environment, the violence of the great corporations and the establishment, of the mass media and the manipulators.
