The clergy and the intelligent laity often ask what is happening today in the scholarly study of the New Testament. The present work endeavors to present the main issues of debate over the past two decades. As background for this debate, a brief resume is given of the main developments between the two world wars. A more detailed account is then given of Dr. Bultmann's program of demythologizing, together with the main arguments pro and contra in the subsequent discussion.
