The present book is an entirely new work and is designed to cover in much greater detail the ground which was covered by the numerous impressions of the late Joseph Sickenberger's Einleitung in das Neue Testament. As Pope XII has emphasized in his encyclical Divino Afflante Spiritu of 30th September 1943, where he deals with the promotion of Biblical studies, at the present day theological student require a more thorough grounding in Biblical science than was considered adequate at the beginning of the present century; and in fact theological school in the last forty years have devoted more time to Biblical studies.
