Teaching All Nations: A Symposium on Modern Catechetics
The same pastoral concern is at work today in the countries which are already Christian and in those yet to be evangelized. There are is a general desire to free the Christian from all mere formalism and to lead him to a personal, living and active faith. But until now the efforts made in some Western countries for a liturgical renewal have been more instance, both in theory and practice, than in the missions. The papers read at this Conference have been gathered in this book. Their importance is self-evident for the catechetIcal apostolate throughout the entire world. Liturgy and Catechesis, the structure and aims of modern catechism and religious instruction books. Practical question are dealt with such as the possible use of the vernacular in the liturgy, the need for the adaption of religious teaching and of certain ceremonies to the outlook, customs and susceptibilities of the mission peoples, and the all-important matter of the proper recruitment and training of priest and lay catechists.
