This is the first in a series of original studies in American pastoral liturgy to be presented by the Woodstock Center for Religion and Worship. The eucharistic rituals in this book are offered as samples of what a truly American liturgy might be like in the future, as it comes to respect and mirror the particular religious experience of the American people. The formulations are marked by their ease and directness of language, balanced by a deep reverence for the authentic tradition of eucharistic celebrations. The overall structure is spare, uncluttered, often with a charming simplicity.
