There is no doubt about it that one of the main difficulties about the Bible is that even if you're very ignorant about it it's still too well known to you: the famous stories, the amazing statements, the memorable phrases, the great figures-all these things are still too much part of our culture not to bell all too familiar, in a way, even to a man who scarcely ever opens the pages of a Bible at all.
