Commentary on the Sunday Readings
Three readings are provided in the Lectionary for each Sunday: the first from the Old Testament, the second from the apostolic writings, and the third from a gospel. The three readings for the Sundays of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter present a single theme. In the Sundays of the Year the epistle and gospel are arranged semi-continuous and present no particular theme; the Old Testament reading is chosen because of its relationship to the gospel passage.
