The book attempts to meet three goals. First, to provide and exact translation of Rousseau's Social Contract; second, to make available the first complete English translation of the Geneva Manuscript as well as a version of the Political Economy; third, to offer in the Introduction and editorial footnotes useful background information and an explanation of references that might otherwise be unclear.
