The pilgrimage of His Holiness Pope Paul VI to Australia could have been the symbolic passing by the holder of an ancient office. Some traditions that surround the papacy make it all too easy to cover up the simple fact that Paul VI is a man; that seventy years ago he was simply a small boy called John Montini. However, his visit made us aware of the humanness of this person, who is so obviously striving with all his energy to make real the Gospel of his Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
