On the Trial of Jesus
Since there are no strictly historical records on which a systematic reconstruction of Jesus' trial and crucifixion can be based, the author examines and analyses the relevant accounts in the canonical Gospels with a view to extracting from them reliable information. Among the topics discussed are the following: Roman and Jewish methods of capital execution, the official meeting-place of the Sanhedrin in connection with the report of a night session in the high-priest's house, Pilate in history and in Christian tradition, the identity of the high-priest in office at the time of the trial of Jesus, the Barabbas episode, the opponents of Jesus, etc.
