The Enemy Within the Gate: The Catholic Church and Renascent Modernism
It was said of Newman that he owed his striking originality of thought to a careful avoidance of the 'best' books of his time. Father McKee has certainly waded through today;s trendy writing but has remained equally uninfected by the specious. He is perhaps too deeply read in history to fall for the ephemeral and fallacious. The book is, however, essential positive. He establishes the true nature of the teaching authority of the Church and Rome, for the benefit of a generation hypnotised by the legalistic niceties of infallibility, and resolves the 'papal cases' which the Catholic Fringe has taken over from the old-times Protestant pamphleteers.
