Word into Silence
By turning aside from everything that is passing, that is contingent, we seek not just to think about God but to be with God, to experience Him as the ground of our being.' It is to encourage people truly to 'turn aside', not to avoid or escape from life, but to discover through meditation the deepest centre of their being, to encounter the Spirit of Jesus dwelling within, that the author has written this little book. To understand Christian truths on a theoretical level is one thing; for these truths to become fully alive in our hearts though the infusion of God's love, giving us new life and peace, is something very different. But in the silent saying of our short prayer, our mantra in the simplicity of concentrating upon God in silence and openness, in remaining faithful day by day to our meditation, this 'realization' of God in our hearts can become a reality; and the reality can gradually flood our whole being, enabling our relationships with others to grow in depth and understanding.
