The Living Church: A Sequel to the Council and Reunion

This book might reasonably be as a sequel to the author's The Council and Reunion. Professor Hans Kung points out that Councils are the perfect example the summoning of the Church. Here is the link between what is happening in Rome and what we do together when we celebrate the Eucharist. He deals with the kinds of things that the Council is to discus and what we may expect oh these discussions. He is concerned with the theology of the Ecumenical Council, its relation to the laity, its concern with the renewal of the Church and its rejection of doctrinalism. in the second half of the book he discusses the extent to which this programme is likely to be carried out, particularly in terms of the reform of the liturgy. He then goes on to deal with the new approach to doctrine and the obvious difficulties involved in approaches to other Christians over doctrinal questions. Finally, he discusses the Church in the present age, including questions oh the relationship between the episcopacy and primacy, and above all the question of religious tolerance.
