The first volume of this work has already found many readers, and the present volume, which completes the whole, should find many more-since, after all, the whole point of the Old testament was to lead up to the New. We need, not simply to have difficulties explained away, but much more to have our eyes opened to the place Scripture has in the live many sidedness of the Church, who is the one Christ, here and now present to us in the world. The liturgy, social action, the whole embodying of Christ's Gospel in our Christian dealing with one another-these are the practical applications which make this guide a real means of Christian formation, and not a mere academic exercise. True, the most up-to-date scholarship and the soundest of for the ordinary reader; maps, plans and a carefully thought out scheme of presentation combine to make it an extremely efficient pocket toolkit of New Testament learning. But this expert skill is here wholly at the service of the do-it-yourself Christian.
