Free to Love: Proverty-Chastity-Obedience
The author writes: There are many reasons why the 'Religious life' is an all-important feature of the contemporary Church. Some of them I have already attempted to clarify in Disciples and Prophets. Here I would like to point out again that through all the polemics and confusion, the Church needs to be questioned by the quality of the life of a free and loving group of people in her midst, which sees its primary task as the continuation of the free and loving life-style of Jesus of Nazareth. Our poverty, our chastity and our obedience are not a privileged possession which sets us apart from the Church and the rest of the world. Biblical poverty, chastity and obedience are the vocation of every man and woman, and they are, I hope I have indicated, our way to authentic humanity. It must be so, as through such a life-style we follow the poor, chaste and obedient Jesus along a path which leads to the ultimate answer to the deepest longings of the hearts of all men and women: resurrection.
