Liturgy Made Simple
A favorite story that the English like to tell against themselves concerns two very proper gentlemen who found themselves marooned upon a desert island. For twenty years they survived upon that barren acreage, eating boiled eggs for breakfast, taking tea each afternoon, and all the while scanning the horizon, hoping to attract the attention of a passsing ship. Yet, in all that time, so the story goes, they never once spoke to each other, inhibited by the fact that there was no one there to introduce them. This little books needs no introductions. Curiously enough, there are many Catholics who have lived with the liturgy for a lifetime and yet have never befriended it and come to know it. It has always been there, of course, but it has never really spoken to them. It has always seemed somewhat remote and unaproachable and beyond their comprehension.
