Minjung Theology towards a Second Reformation
'Minjung' literally means the multitude of people, but in Minjung theology this tern is closely related to the oppressed, exploited and marginalized. This volume is a collection of essays that I wrote and published from the perspective of Minjung theology in various journals over the past several years. Since 1984 Minjung theology has been my main theme in theology. I followed the Minjung theology that Dr. Ahn Byung-Mu and Dr Suh Nam-Dong advocated. However, I found some controversial points in their theology that I cannot accept. Among them are two important theories; (1) that the 'Minjung are Messiah' and (2) that 'the Bible is a reference book'. Known as the representative theories of Minjung theology, these prevent Minjung theology from being accepted by traditional Korean churches. If Minjung theology continues to retain these theories, it cannot become a theology of the church. It will permanently remain outside of the church.
