The Good News of Matthew's Year
For each Sunday of Year A (Matthew's Year) Fr O'Flynn gives the text of the gospel reading, a short note which puts the reading in its liturgical or scriptural context, and then he summaries the Good News of the reading in a sentence or two. He then gives two reflections on the reading, the first normally being a commentary on the text, and the second being more reflective and imaginative, relating the reading to the world of today. He also offers homilists a plan for preaching throughout the year. But the book is for more than homilists. It and its companion volumes on Mark's Year and Luke's Year have been widely used by groups who come together weekly fro prayer or discussion. Fr O'Flynn's lively, readable style makes the best insights of modern scholarship accessible to those who have not had time for serious study.
