In recent times, sociologists have sought to explain some of the phenomena of our shrinking world in terms of a third culture. The concept is different from although not entirely unrelated to the much more common idea of the Third World. When two cultures meet from whatever world they come we are told that a third culture is formed at the point of intersection. For example the British colonial administrator who spent many years in India was changed by his experience.
