Increasingly the Churches are coming to see the need for a contemporary declaration of faith. The Congregational Church in England and Wales was early in the field, having called for such a statement in 1958; in 1967 it was published in its final from. The present book is a kind of commentary, published with the aim that A Declaration of Faith, which is printed as an Appendix, may become better known and more widely used. The contributions are all Congregationalists and they write with authority, combining explanation and critical appraisal. Churchmen of other denominations who are thinking towards the same goal will be able to draw their own lessons from the Congregational initiative.
