The Synoptic Problem: An Introduction

The Synoptic Problem presents literary, form, and redaction criticism, in this order, to develop in the reader a sense for the historical development of these disciplines. Part 1 presents the arguments for and against Mark's priory and Q's existence before coming down in favour of both. Part 2 discusses the presuppositions of form criticism, the general reliability of the oral transmission of the Gospel traditions, and the value of form criticism. Part 3 treats the method, practice, and value of redaction criticism. A glossary makes it easier for the novice to follow the discussion. A Scripture index helps one to locate the author's exegetical insights on individual passages. A subject index concludes The Synoptic Problem.
