We begin our investigation into the Son of Man problem with a observation of how the Son of Man is identified with the Son of God in the Gospel as they now stand. Here we will not discuss the authenticity or the Redaktions geschichte of the individual passages where such an identification is made. For we are interested simply in seeing that in the Gospels as they now stand the identification is made and therefore that the Evangelists understood themselves the Son of Man to be the Son of God and intended to present their unity.
