The Rhetoric of Western Thought
Since then the entire book has been reexamined. Many portions have been rewritten, and several essays have been replaced by another, newer writings. We would like to call your special attention to these major changes: (1) Three essays - those by William R. Brown and Ernest Bormann and the co-authored opiece by Susan Mura and Elizabeth Waggenspack - were written specifically for the edition; (2) The Ideas of Isocrates and Plato have been expanded; (3) the essay Rhetoric in Transition has been revised and become a separate chapter; (4) the chapter on the Rhetoric of Conversion has been extensively modified now containing an important addendum on the conversion rhetoric of Jim Jones; and (5) the total Contemporary Rhetorical Theory; the discussion of Rhetoric as Meaning has been increased from two to four chapters.
