The Prophets (Vol.I): The Assyrian Period
The intention of the present study is to introduce readers to the thinking of Israel's prophets. The prophets whose words have been collected in the writings of the Old Testament are not simply the charismatically endowed recipients of visions and spoken messages. Nor are they merely writers to whom we owe splendid examples of Hebrew poetry. It is not even enough to see them as preaches who, filled with a profound faith, proclaim as the word of God a kerygma which awaits the faith of its hearers.
