The critical problems of the Pastorals, their authorship and Pauline connection, undoubtedly tended, in nineteenth and early twentieth century discussion, to overshadow their splendid record of Christian experience and witness during a critical and formative period of the church life. Professor Hanson's previous studies of the Pastoral and in particular his exegetical expertise, make for a well balanced treatment of critical problems and for a sound exposition of the actual contents and relevance of these classic documents of Christian faith and order in the early church.
