This book is the third and final volume of Theodore Mackin's comprehensive overview of the theology and pastoral practice of marriage in the Catholic Church. While the previous volumes looked at the nature of marriage and the possibility of divorce and remarriage, this one considers the sacramental theology of marriage from its origins in the Hebrew scriptures, through the Church Fathers, the Middle Ages and through the Second Vatican Council. He concludes that the theological issues regarding marriage are far from being closed, and he urges that married Catholics take a major role in further theological reflection.
