The Foundations of Architecture: Selections from the Dictionaire Raisonne
Eugene-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (1814-1879) is widelyrecognized as the most astute and influential architectural theorist of his era. His greates work is the ten-volume Descriptive raisone de l'architecture from the 11th to the 16th Century (Dictionnaire raisonne de l'architecture francaise du XLe au XVe siecle). Here, for the first time, the four most important essays from Viollet-le-Duc's Dictionary are collected and translated into English.
