In The Eucharist Prof Schillebeeckx has provided an outstanding contemporary analysis of transubstantiation and of its meaning and significance today. The first part of his book concentrates on the concerns and approach of the Fathers who defined the doctrine at the Council of Trent, and the second part goes on to develop a modern interpretation of 'the distinctively eucharistic manner of the Real Presence'.
