The Epistles of John
John's most valuable contribution to Christian thought, I. Howard Marshall emphasizes in this commentary, is his understanding of faith. Faith is based on the truth of Christ, and must have a proper understanding of Jesus as the Son of God. It is not to be separated from a love for the brethren, for love without faith is not true Christian love. Faith, as John sees it, is expressed in righteousness and is linked finally with an assurance of eternal life.
