Paul and the Jewish Law: Halakha in the Letters of the Apostle to the Gentiles
This book adds an important aspect to Pauline and Judaic research. Interest in Paul's relationship to Judaism is growing recently, but it had not yet resulted in a comparison between his practical instruction and the ancient halakha or Jewish traditional law. This is a first endeavour, which integrates both sympathy and erudition vis-a-vis the two religious traditions. The outcome is a surprise: halakha was basic to Paul's instruction for non-Jewish Christian. A first rate document is First Corinthians. Historical and theological implications are vast, both regarding Paul's relationship to Judaism, his attitude towards Jesus and his Apostles, and the meaning of his teaching concerning justification and the Law.
