The Courage To Be
The problem of anxiety has dominated much of contemporary literature and philosophy. In this book Paul Tillich, the well-known theologian, tries to point the way towards its conquest. He distinguishes at the outset three main periods of anxiety in the Western world, the third of which is our own. In his analysis the courage to take this inescapable anxiety upon oneself assumes three forms: the courage to be as part of a larger whole, the courage to stand alone, and the courage to accept the fact we are carried by the creative power of being in which every creature participates.
