The Christology of Mark's Gospel
The aim of this book is to explore the christology of Mark. In the present climate or Marcan studies, however, this is perhaps an untimely venture. For one thing, one sense that because of a preoccupation with christology on the part of scholars in past decades a pall of ennui has settled over the subject. This is all the more the case when it comes to an examination of titles of majesty. The mood in some quarters appears to be that is one investigates christology, one should do so apart from any concentration on titles. But this position too is reductionistic. In the case of Mark titles of majesty occur at strategic points throughout the story. Hence if scholars are to find a solution to the seemingly intractable problem of Marcan christology they will have to arrive at some agreement as to what these titles connote and what purpose they serve within Mark's story.
