Catholic Perspectives: Divorce
The Church is a human institution which has the right to establish standards which help it achieve its reason for existence. If it teachings on divorce develop out of understanding of both its mission and the situation to which it speaks, then it has the right and obligation to establish the means for gaining acceptance of this teaching among its members. If the experience of members has been considered in the development of the perspective, they will be more inclined to be responsive to the teaching.
