When I was celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Congregation of the Mission, my journalistic instinct encouraged me to write about the history of the mission and its contribution to the growth and development of Indonesia. In the past, the Vincentian missionaries came from different continents, bringing with them different traditions and cultures, without knowing the local language, culture, and/or terrain. Even with all these limitations, they were able to lay a foundation for the development of the Catholic Church in East Java and the rest of Indonesia.
