Traditional themes and new research directions in the growing field of organizational communication are addressed in the nine chapters of this collection. In contrast to much of the previous research on this topic, the contributors share a field view of communication moving away from the traditional focus on observable behavior of systems of behaviors and events. The result is a general theoretical drift away from a collection of empirical propositions to studies that help describe the field in new and ingenious ways.
